Computing

At Westleigh Methodist, our computing curriculum follows Purple Mash. We ensure that online safety is taught explicitly each term (and revisited in every lesson) so that our children feel safe using the internet, are aware of the dangers and are equipped with the necessary tools and knowledge to protect themselves online.

SCARF Visit - March 2025

This month, the children in Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 will be taking part in workshops focussing on identifying the benefits and risks associated with being online, online behaviours and developing critical thinking skills. We would like parents and carers to have the opportunity to come into school to find out about what the children cover in their sessions. Please be aware that the session is not about setting up parental controls, but about how you can support your child to behave safely and responsibly, and to manage the time they spend online.

The parent/carers session will take place at 9.00-9.15am on Monday 10th March in our school hall.

Safer Internet Day - Tuesday 11th February 2025

We continually work on key messages from Safer Internet Day.

Around Safer Internet Day, we ran a poster competition to promote this important learning. The children engaged in activities in class throughout the week to raise awareness. Miss O’Connor, our Computing Lead, is happy to answer any questions or support worries at home around this.

Our internet safety competition winners were Aydin and Essa from Year 1 who worked so hard at home making their 3D posters. They really looked into how to keep safe online and were able to tell the whole class how to do this.

Our Weekly Newsletter

Each week, our newsletter contains a dedicated section on safeguarding. Recently, we have concentrated on  on-line safety...especially with it being On-line Safety Day in February. Here is an extract from 14th February and the parental guidance from Childnet is attached below.

Early Years Computing

Nursery and Reception begin their computing journey through using technology to explore the world around them by using ipads. The children will recognise that a range of technology is used in places such as homes and schools and they will select and use technology for particular purposes.
